UAV’s can improve the effectiveness of disaster relief and emergency response efforts by enhancing first responder capabilities and providing advanced predictive capabilities and early warnings. UAV systems can aid in many disaster and emergencies including natural disasters, such as storms, heavy snow, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions, civil disturbances, oil or chemical spills, and urban disasters. These events can make land routes and waterways temporarily inaccessible by terrestrial or marine means and may also interrupt the communication infrastructure, leaving the affected area isolated. UAV’s collect real-time data about the scale of the damage caused by the disastrous event and relays information about the disaster zone in real-time to the disaster coordination base. By having timely and correct information, first responder agencies can distribute aid supplies effectively and to the places most in need.
